Annual Garage Sale Cleans Up Again!

The Colony Woods Annual Garage Sale was held on June 9-10 this year, headed up by Chairperson Molly Griffin.  Participation was a bit lower this year than in past years, but those homes that did participate had an eclectic array of items for sale; everything from candles to TVs to baby clothes to cake decorating pans.  Attendance to the Garage Sale was hampered by the steady rain on Saturday, although attendance was fairly good on Friday.  Many residents took advantage of the pre-arranged Goodwill pick-up for any good that did not sell and families did not want to pack away again!

Many, many thanks goes to Chairperson Molly Griffin as well as to Debbi Kuller and Lisa Brown for their wonderful help in setting up this very popular event.

2006 Block Party

On August 20th, over 200 residents converged on Leeds Court for the annual Block Party.  The weather was lovely this year, allowing for the involvement of several traditions such as the fire truck soaking of the neighborhood kids brave enough to withstand the hoses, face painting, balloon-making, and fellowship.  Chairperson Robbin Edwards contracted with an Indianapolis firm to provide the ribs, chicken, and pork—there was plenty to eat for the hungry crowd.  Drinks were also provided.  Attendees brought a dish to share, with the desserts being the first to disappear!  Music was provided and enjoyed by all; the children who danced and the adults who sat at provided tables and listened as they talked with other neighbors.

The CWHA wishes to thank Chairperson Robbin Edwards and her team of volunteers for another excellent Block Party.  Many thanks, also, to the residents of Leeds Court who graciously allowed their street to be blocked off for the evening and offered their lawns for casual lounging.

If you would like to help with the 2007 Block Party, please contact Chairperson Robbin Edwards today!  Her phone number is in the directory.

2006 Posada

The 2006 Posada took place on December 3rd, in the usual place of 1110 Williamsburg Lane.  Posada Chairperson Kevin Schmidt once again did a fantastic job of organizing this event.  About 50 people braved the cold to attend this event and usher in the holiday season.  Kevin Schmidt led the crowd in the singing of carols, culminating with the tradition of singing “O Holy Night”.  Resident Amy Mildenberg gave the inspiring message, and neighborhood children provided a live nativity scene.  Following the message, residents chatted together over hot chocolate and assorted cookies that were made/brought by the CWHA Board members.

Thank you also to all the neighbors who participated in the other part of the Posada’s tradition, the lighting of luminaries around each homes’ street border.  Hopefully, you were able to take a drive around to see the luminaries as well as the tasteful decorations that homeowners put up in their yards this year.

2006 Perennial Exchange

Chairperson Carol Ahman did a wonderful job of planning for the 2006 Perennial Exchange, but unfortunately her co-chair Mother Nature did not do her job.  The morning of May 13th opened with heavy rain and cold temperatures, which did not put many residents in the mood for swapping and talking plants.  Consequently, turn-out was very low.

The good news is that this probably means that many people’s yards are in need of a much-needed pruning this coming Spring!  Watch for the dates for the 2007 Perennial Exchange and hope that Mother Nature does a better job this year!
